Acceleration
Acceleration The rate at which velocity changes. Acceleration is the change in velocity divided by the change in time. Acceleration can be positive (speeding up) or negative (slowing down).
How do we calculate acceleration? Acceleration shows how many meters per second the velocity has changed by each second.
Acceleration & Velocity-Time Graphs Depending on the type of velocity-time graph, different types of accelerations can be inferred. Uniform acceleration: total velocity change divided by the total time or the slope of a line drawn between two points on a v vs. t graph. Instantaneous acceleration: slope of the line at a specific instant in time.
Uniform Acceleration Calculate the acceleration of the object.
Instantaneous Acceleration Calculate the instantaneous acceleration of the object.
Acceleration-Time Graphs The area under the curve is equal to the velocity of the object.
