LITERACY, MATHS & SCIENCE. Downs Junior School Year 6 Homework Grid Spring 1: Power of the Planet. Complete at least 4 tasks (including task in bold). OPTION 1: CREATIVE ARTS.   Visit Visit the Millenium Seed Bank at Wakehurst place. How are they ensuring the survival of a species? P4C ‘Should mankind intervene to prevent extinction of a species?’ Discuss your ideas with others and come full of thoughts to share. Changes on Earth If you could change one thing on this planet what would it be? Explain your answer. Design Time Design your own Escher style image. You could make this 2D or 3D. Just 10 Things Imagine you had to live on a desert island. What 10 things would you bring with you and why? Extra: Desert Island Discs – What songs would you take? Model Volcano Make a model of a volcano. Include facts and information from your research. Sailing Adventure Plan your own sailing adventure around the world. Use a map to plot your route. Add as much information to your map as you can. There is a map outline you could use on the school website.  Things you could include: - Names of Ports - Reasons why you want to visit - Landmarks Countries and capital cities (Due in by Friday 27th January) OPTION 2: LITERACY, MATHS & SCIENCE. Living Things Keep a journal of the living things that you see for a week. Write notes about what you see, take photos or draw pictures of the living thing. Can you spot any similarities between species? Extra Extra! Write a newspaper report about an earthquake or volcanic eruption. You could present it as an old newspaper from the time of a real event e.g. Pompeii. Remember to include: a headline, a picture, direct or reported speech, the 5 Ws. Facts Facts Facts Research tectonic plates and create a fact file. This can be presented electronically, in written form or as a poster. Maths Gaming Create a maths game for others to play in class. You could make it a numbered card game or you could invent your own. (Remember to play Sumdog too!) Instructions: A task in bold means you must complete it and hand it in by the given date. We also ask you complete at least one other English or Maths task alongside other homework of your choosing. Trips can be documented in photo form as well as anything else mentioned in the task. Alongside these tasks we still expect daily reading of at least 20 minutes, preferably to an adult, as well as completion of the fortnightly spelling tasks and regular timetables practice.
