National Centre for Excellence in Housing Governance, operation and scope Joint Venture Business partnership between BRE and NHBC Governance Board 50/50 BRE/NHBC Key Opinion Leader Group Collaboration, Dissemination and Hard Fact Four theme areas agreed as a framework for activities Covering new build, refurbishment and maintenance  

Four inter-related Themes Sustainability Major role announced in June – coordination of research and application to meet the 2016 Zero Carbon target for new homes Design Quality Home for the Future Award and development of winner. Supporting initiatives to improve quality. Efficiency Follow up to Barker 33 group activities. Looking at measures which minimise waste and maximise the affordability of new or refurbished homes. Working with the Housing Forum. Considering the new Planning White Paper and supporting best practice in Planning. Land use Planning  

Efficiency Barker review of housing supply Recommendation 33 referred to barriers to greater efficiency. Housing Production Barriers Group established. It will look at: Process mapping and management Design and Technology costs Customer appeal and Customer satisfaction Overall cost advantages of different approaches Manufacturers capacity to supply.

Land use Planning New White Paper on Planning has major repercussions for Housing. National Centre will be working in collaboration with the Housing Forum to help the sector to respond and to engage with best practice in planning.
