Huckleberry Finn Ch.29 Symbols, Conceits, Objective Correlatives and Questions By Sonia Garcia

Symbols King and Duke Evil, greed Townspeople Progress in society Money Power, greed River/ Raft Peace, getaway from all the problems and dangers of the land Huck usually heads back to the river with Jim in order to escape from problems but as he is running away from the king and duke and they catch up to them on the river it signifies that there are evils that you can’t run from and can’t be avoided.

Conceits The concept of light vs. dark when the people are digging up Peter Wilks’ coffin Lies vs. Truth: The king and duke continously lie and the townspeople aren’t sure if they should believe them because they want the solid truth. (Main drive of this chapter)

Objective correlatives ???

Comprehension Questions Why can’t the real Wilks brothers prove their true identities? What are the townspeople looking to find in Peter’s coffin?

Literary Analysis Questions Why didn’t the king and duke leave town as soon as they saw the real Harvey and William Wilks? Why did Huck never tell the truth to any one about the king and duke if he now hated their scam?

Inference Questions If Huck was in a court for a murder trial do you think he would be the lawyer, jury, witness, judge, or the victim? How would Huck react if he won the lottery?
