Process 34 nominations received – separated into two categories: Signage-ready – sufficient facilities on the corridor to warrant highway signage; Signage-pending – at this time, insufficient facilities on the corridor to warrant highway signage Decisions based on information from DOE’s alternative fuel station locator database This initial phase focused on interstate highway designations (many state highways and roads were nominated) Designations…. Include portions/segments of 55 Interstates and a few state roads/highways Comprise 35 states plus D.C. Covers almost 85,000 miles of the National Highway System Fuel Type Signage Ready Signage Pending Total Electric Vehicle (EV)      11,579        13,056      24,636 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)      11,101        10,695      21,796 Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)        2,845        13,526      16,371 Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)        3,922          8,040      11,962 Hydrogen          717          9,223        9,939 There are  30,164 miles that are “signage-ready”,  54,540 that are “signage pending” for a total of 84,704 miles of roadway on the National Highway System that have been designated (signage-ready +signage pending) as alternative fuel corridors for one or more fuels. Another way you may want to express it is as total miles of the entire NHS that are signage ready ( 13.4%) or have been designated (signage-ready + signage-pending)(38%) for one or more fuels. This is assuming that the total NHS mileage is 223,668 miles, which is stated on our website. http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/planning/national_highway_system/nhs_maps/map21estmileage.cfm For EV’s less than 1% of the NHS is signage-ready.  If we can get the pending corridors to change to green (signage-ready) we would be at 11%!
