Development Snakes and Ladders Lesson Objective: To understand how different countries develop. To understand what “globalisation” means
The aim of the lesson Each of you are a developing country and it is a race to globalise. Each player is racing against each other to accelerate their development through the globalisation process. You must use the information you have learned over the last 4 lessons to design your own snakes and ladders board game. You must get round the board as quickly as possible.
Design your game…….. You are each a country in the new world and will be racing around the board. For every snake and ladder you will need to write either a way in which the country can accelerate development, or a way in which development can be hindered by the globalisation process. The snakes and ladders are all of different lengths, so must think carefully about how important each way you add to your game is.
As an example A ladder could be… A snake could be… An international company from the USA has invested in transport infrastructure (new roads and railways) in your country. Local companies use this to increase their exports and earn more money. A snake could be… There is too much iron ore in the world. The price you receive for your iron ore goes down. As a result you cannot build all the new houses and roads you had promised.
How to play… Download a free dice application to your smartphone. Roll the dice and play! Have fun!
To finish Who won? Who lost? Why did they win? What ladders helped them achieve faster development? Did globalisation help them to develop? Who lost? What snakes hindered development for the losers?
