Autumn art analysis Francesca New

Objective In this task we had to find some images of artwork which we thought could be linked to Autumn due to us doing a project on autumn advertisement. For this task I went to the library and researched some books and took pictures from my phone of the artwork which reminded me of autumn. I then also took pictures of the title and the contents page to tell me when it was published to help me reference.

LEE KRASNER This is an image of the painting produced by Lee Krasner, named: Bald Eagle and produced in 1955. she was an abstract based artist. 1928, she enrolled in the ‘National academy of design’ because she wanted to pursue a career in art. She then became an art teacher. This image reminds me of autumn for the reason that it has loads of browns and dark reds which are the colours linked to autumn because that is what the colours of leaves are at this season.

FRANK AUERBACH These 3 images are paintings produced by Frank Auerbach, named: ‘Head of Ruth Bomberg’ ‘Head of Catherine Lampert’ and ‘Head of Jake’. All produced in 1998. He was a German who studied at the ‘Royal college of Art’ in the UK. From 1955 he was teaching in Secondary schools. During him teaching in secondary schools he had his first art exhibition in 1956 in London. These 3 paintings reminded me of autumn for the reason that the colours are all neutral.

Avenue of poplars in Autumn This is an image I have taken of Van Gogh’s painting ‘Avenue of poplars in autumn’ which was produce in 1884. Van Gogh was a Dutch painter who was an art teacher in London and Ramsgate. His most well known paintings were created just two years before he died at the age of 37 due to a gun wound. This painting links to autumn because of the orange leaves on the trees and floor and the colours he has used are all warm.

Chapel at Nuenen with churchgoers This is an image I have taken of Van Gogh’s painting ‘Chapel at Nuenen with churchgoers’ which was produced October 1884. He painted this painting with oil paint on canvas. This painting is part of the ‘Vincent Vang Gogh foundation’ in Amsterdam. This painting links to autumn because again the leaves are orange and the trees are half bare which shows it is autumn. Also because all the colours in this painting are warm.
