Homo Erectus Life Around 1.5 million-250,00 years ago Lived in small groups 20-30 ppl Probably began living in Africa Migrated into Europe & Asia 1st species to walk completely upright Able to live in much wider range of environments adapt local conditions 1st homo erectus lived in Africa a mill. yrs ago Roamed over a wider area

What they looked like Tall & heavy as modern humans Taller than previous hominids Larger brain than homo habilis brain Teeth smaller than homo habilis teeth Larger teeth than modern humans teeth Skull was very thick, sloping forehead, large eyebrow ridge Massive jaw, flat face, no chin Large jaw & teeth Strong muscles to keep head upright Muscles attached to bony bump @ the back of head

Homo erectus camp: Terra Amata This site was named “Terra Amata” after the street in Nice where found Nice is in France Rich in resources Located along shore Mediterranean sea Near fresh water spring Good place 2 hunt & gather food Came 2 rebuild their huts year after year People visited the site 4 only a few days & weeks at a time
