Welcome to the Christian Brothers’ Primary School Armagh.

Our school is based in a small city in Ireland called Armagh.

Ireland is divided into two countries – Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. We live in Northern Ireland near the border. Our county is called Armagh. Green=Republic of Ireland Pink=Northern Ireland

Our county is called Armagh and the city is also called Armagh (hopefully not too confusing)

Some facts about Northern Ireland: Population: 1.77 million (est. June '08) Area: 13,843 km2 Border: 360km (with the Republic of Ireland) Capital city: Belfast (pop. 267,500)

Some facts about Armagh: Population: Armagh (14,590) Armagh’s name comes from Irish ‘Ard Mhacha,’ meaning "Macha's height" . It is the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland – the seat of the Archbishops of Armagh, the Primates of All Ireland for both the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of Ireland. In ancient times, it and nearby Navan Fort (Eamhain Mhacha) was one of the great royal capitals of pagan Gaelic Ireland.

OUR SCHOOL. This is our school crest - a crest used by all Christian Brothers’ Schools throughout the world.

In 1841 Cardinal Cullen invited the Congregation of Christian Brothers to start a school for boys in Armagh. The first Christian Brothers primary school was situated in Irish Street, Armagh in 1851 with our present school in the Greenpark site on the eastern outskirts of Armagh opening in 1854.

Our school buildings.

There are approximately 450 boys and girls in our school aged from 3 to 11. Some pupils are taught through the Irish Language and some are taught through the English language.

Here are some images from our school:

Our nursery pupils are aged 3 & 4.

We are really looking forward to the project and hope to see you soon.
