Bellringer Sept 25/Sept 26 List the letters of the alphabet from A to L For each letter, list some aspect of your life that fits into it. For example: A – AM – the mornings are tough for me because I need to wake up my body and then wait for my mind to wake up about an hour later. B – Baby – when my son was a baby, I used to smell his hair all the time. It smelled like Johnson’s baby shampoo and him. It was like the soft touch of a flower petal on my cheek. I never want to put his squirming little body down because of how comforting he smelled. C – Cleaning the house – I loathe cleaning my house. It is the worst job ever because there is always something being tracked in and through the house.

Responding to Outliers prompt In the previous session, we wrote responses to the LEQ: What is Malcolm Gladwell's purpose in presenting the different factors that determine success?

What are the three factors? Check your reading notes. Why does he spell out that there are THREE factors and not just our innate abilities and talents which make us outliers? WHY does he need to SHOW us at least THREE examples of people who have all THREE factors? WHY these three people?

Organization of argument When you are presenting an argument, you need to do the following steps Present your claim/argument/thesis. Address any counterarguments (claims that might refute or disagree with your claim) Provide solid, meaningful, convincing and DOCUMENTED examples. Tie in those examples to the claim. Conclude with further ideas to consider or further ways the examples are important.

Now, REVISE your paragraph response. Use the CSET model to help you reconstruct your response. You will have more than one example, so it might look like a CSETETETETETETETET…. YOUR reading guide will provide you with the information you need and the details you need. You won’t be using quotations this time, but you need to give specific details. This is individual work. Do this SILENTLY. I want to hear your brains thinking.

For further Consideration Argue for or against Gladwell’s claim that with hard work and creativity "you can shape the world to your desires." You need to provide EVIDENCE for your argument. Do this in a well written paragraph.
