DEFINITION OF ADJECTIVE Adjectives are words that tell us more about the noun or pronoun they modify. e.g. cold ice ,hot wind and pink frock.

EXAMPLES OF ADJECTIVES The rich people live in huge mansions. She wore a red embroidered saree.

ADJECTIVES BEFORE NOUN Adjectives mostly come before nouns they modify. e.g.- Red Carpet Striped Zebra Dangerous Animal

ADJECTIVES AFTER VERBS Adjectives can be used after verbs ( is, am, are, was, were ) when they tell us what kind of a person or thing is. E.g. – I am happy. We are excited. The snake is poisonous.

Kinds of Adjectives There are six kinds of Adjectives :- Adjectives of Quality Adjective of Quantity Adjective of Number Distributive Adjective Demonstrative Adjective Interrogative Adjective

ADJECTIVE OF QUANTITY The black cat caught a rat. Ashoka was a great king. She is a poor girl. Sachin is a handsome young man.

The words ‘black, great, poor and handsome’ are Adjective of quality The words ‘black, great, poor and handsome’ are Adjective of quality. They add to meaning of NOUNS : cat. King, girl and young man. They shows the QUALITY or NOUNS which they qualify.

ADJECTIVE OF QUANTITY Rajni brought some rice. He has much money. The child drank the whole milk. We have enough stock of wheat.

Adjectives ‘some, much, whole and enough’ show how much of a thing is meant. Such adjectives are ADJECTIVES OF QUANTITY.

ADJECTIVE OF NUMBER Many boys were present today. I have four apples. The first boy in the second row is my brother. All men must die.

Adjectives ‘many, four, first, second and all’ show how much persons or things there are or in what order they stand. SUCH ADJECTIVES are called Adjective Of Number.

DISTRIBUTIVE ADJECTIVE Each beggar was given aims. Neither statement was true. Every man must do his duty. Either team can win the match.

ADJECTIVES ‘ each, neither, every and either’ shows the persons or things taken singly or separately. These are called Distributive Adjectives.

DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVE This girl is my niece. These pens are mine. That boy is my student. Those pencils are yours.

ADJECTIVES ‘this, these, that and those’ are DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVES ADJECTIVES ‘this, these, that and those’ are DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVES. They point out which persons or things are meant.

INTERROGTIVE ADJECTIVES Which house is yours? Whose pen is this? What building is that?

ADJECTIVES ‘which, whose and what’ are used with nouns to questions ADJECTIVES ‘which, whose and what’ are used with nouns to questions. Such Adjectives are called INTERROGATIVE ADJECTIVES.
