Monasterio de Huevla dating from the end of the 15th century

Monasterio de Huelva The property for sale is comprised of a convent, cloister, refractory, larger cloister and adjoining outbuildings, as well as the convent church. A total of 3,072 m2 constructed set in 13,416 m2 (3 hectares). Founded at the end of the 15th century the property is a combination of religious, residential and livestock buildings.

Description Located in a large country house on the remains of a Roman villa and Muslim farmstead, the Monastery alternates late Gothic style of the church and refectory with the Mudejar style of some of the cloister and successive interventions in Renaissance and Baroque of the rest. Currently it used as a country house and place for celebrations. The cloisters one of the oldest and most valuable parts of the Monastery are developed on two floors.

History of the Monastery The monastic life was based on isolation self-sufficiency. The church was built in the 16th century along with the cloisters, refectory and other buildings. Throughout the 18th century the property was an agricultural farm. In the following century the monastery suffered damaged due to the French invasion and much of the property was confiscated. From 1838 it was exclusively agricultural although it did not lose its original monastic structure. At the end of the 20th century the dependency then undertook a major program in renovation and reform.

The church is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture and consists of a rectangular ground plan with side chapels. The vault of starry naves is of great beauty. The wall paintings in the shrine of the Virgin are frequented throughout the building. The church is not consecrated and does not allow religious celebrations, but can be used for civil weddings, concerts and exhibitions etc.

The main cloister consists of two floors, seven bays topped by semi-circular arches on thick brick pillars. On the top floor are galleries, inside them are the former cells of the monks currently upgraded as stately rooms. There are five large bedrooms, some of them with two rooms, three have bathrooms and some have air conditioning. All bedrooms have antique period furniture and have balconies or terraces. There is also one further bathroom.

On this floor is the kitchen with fridge, vitro ceramic and microwave oven. Also lounge and dining room, with either access to the gardens or terrace. On the lower floor there are two perfectly restored toilets which are used in events. The upper zone is exclusively used by the family.

Kitchen

At the bottom of the main courtyard, next to the church, is the ancient sacristy consisting of two square chapels with vaults, one of the most beautiful pieces (and now unused) of the building. The adjacent side is the gatehouse, as well as numerous cells used currently as a warehouse, along with a winery and fresquera.

The Botanical Gardens consists of more than forty different species, trees and shrubs. There is also a 17th century dovecote, eight houses in perfect condition as well as six stables. And for nature lovers there is a colony of Lesser Kestrels
