President Ford felt that the impending criminal investigation and trial of former President Nixon would be a travesty for the country Ford’s pardon of former President Nixon was very unpopular, but looked upon now as probably the right move at the time

The Democrat Congress sent many spending bills to President Ford’s desk Ford felt that driving up the deficit was bad policy, especially with inflation problems the U.S. faced Ford vetoed 39 spending bills in less than three years
