OLYMPIC MOTTO AND CREED CITIUS-ALTIUS-FORTIUS FASTER-HIGHER-STRONGER These three words encourage the athlete to give his or her best during competition, and to view this effort as a victory. Athletes strive for personal excellence! MOTTO CREED “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”

~OLYMPIC HISTORY ~ In 1992 the Winter and Summer Olympics split up. The Winter Olympics started in 1924. The Women’s ski jumping team went to court to try compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics. They lost the court case. Hopefully they will be able to compete in the next Olympics.

OLYMPICS IN CANADA Calgary Winter Olympics were held in 1988. Montreal Summer Olympics were held in 1976.

OLYMPIC MASCOTS

OLYMPIC MASCOTS The three Olympic mascots are Quatchi, Miga and Sumi. Mukmuk is our “electronic” mascots. My favorite mascot is Miga because she likes cocoa, the colour green and surfing . Her favorite food is fish. I love fish too!!!!! I’m like Sumi because he likes fern green and so do I. He likes cocoa and me to!!! It is my favorite because I love sitting in my pjs on a cold day by the TV and cuddling my sister as she falls asleep.

MUKMUK You probably know about the 3 Olympic mascots, but there is 1 more. His name is Mukmuk. He is a sidekick for the 3 Olympic mascots. Since he is not an official mascot, he cheers on his furry little friends. Mukmuk’s favorite food is berries. Mukmuk dreams of telling the whole world about his marmot friends. When he is not hibernating, eating, or sunbathing he is cheering friends on. Mukmuk’s favorite color is berry orange. HE LOVES TO EAT ! Marmots are an endangered species. That is sad!

OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY!! The first Olympic relay was in 1936. That is cool!! The Olympic flame goes back nearly 3,000 years. The flame was lit by sun in Greece where it traveled for 8 days before it was handed over to Canada. It then traveled by jet to Victoria on October 30. This was the official beginning of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. The Olympic torch has been travelling across Canada for 7 months. The Olympic torch traveled by zip line ,dog sled and more. 12,000 Canadians got to hold the Olympic torch.

2010 Vancouver Olympics Winter Logo!!!!! The Vancouver 2010 Logo has an Inukshuk on it. The Inukshuk is an Inuit stone marker used by the Inuit to help them find their way in the Arctic. It represents friendship, peace, goodwill and cooperation. The blue and green colours reprezent the Canadian West Coast islands,f orests and nountain ranges. Red represents the Canadian maple leaf while the gold is for the brlliant sunrises in downtown Vancouver.
