AU Vision premised on self-reliance, regional integration, industrialisation and enhanced partnerships AU VISION “An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, is driven by its own citizens and represents a dynamic force in the global arena.”
35 require the use of space applications 40 Objectives in total 35 require the use of space applications 90% reliance on space applications
STISA - 2024 In driving the AU vision, within the context of the key drivers highlighted above, it is imperative that any plans of action must be undertaken in a sustainable manner and address the challenges of transforming its output and trade, broaden and strengthen its weak infrastructural and human resource base, as well as significantly strengthen and modernise its science and technology capability.

Organisational Framework Governance Organisational Framework Finances Efficiency/ sustainability M&E Knowledge Sharing Awareness Campaigns . African states will have to establish an organisational framework that will coordinate all African space capabilities and assets to serve the goals of this policy in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Therefore, African governmental financial support will be the main funding source for space activities. Knowledge sharing is one of the main strategic tools that will ensure the sustainability of an indigenous space sector. Knowledge must be disseminated over the African continent in a non-contradictory way that will promote the development of an African space market. Hence, there needs to be a significant awareness campaign that will educate and inform African decision makers, politicians and the public. It is vitally important that such an awareness campaign promotes collective buy-in and ownership of an African space programme.
Harmonise/ Standardise Optimise effectiveness Regulatory Regulate Activities Harmonise/ Standardise Optimise effectiveness Corordination of existing and new infrastructure to effective use of infrastructure African member states will need to harmonise and standardise all infrastructure to ensure interoperability and seamless integration of data, data integrity and data security/protocol Coordination of legal and regulatory regime A prime responsibility in relation to continental space activities is to ensure that assets related to space such as spectrum, orbital locations, quiet areas for radio-astronomy and other rights are secured for current and future use by continental and national space activities in Africa Act in concert to preserve long term sustainability of space – space treaties Secure Africa’s Use Long-term sustainability
