Presentation transcript:

Characterizing multispectral vertical profiles of aerosol extinction with surface-based measurements This presentation links surface-based particle counts, meteorological observations, and a validated atmospheric radiative transfer code, to yield multispectral quantifications of aerosol optical depth, transmission, and vertical extinction regardless of clouds, weather or sun position.  The vertical extinction profiles are shown to not decrease monotonically with height as often assumed.  Impacts on remote sensing, laser and energy propagation, and climate change prediction are discussed. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 11:00-12:00 Noon 129 Hayes/Healey Hall Dr. Steven Fiorino Assoc. Professor Atmospheric Physics Director AFIT Center for Directed Energy Dept. of Engineering Physics Air Force Institute of Technology Wright -Patterson AFB, Ohio . Dr. Steven T. Fiorino is an Associate Professor of Atmospheric Physics in the Department of Engineering Physics, Graduate School of Engineering and Management, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.  Currently, he is Director of AFIT’s Center for Directed Energy.  Dr. Fiorino obtained his MS in Atmospheric Dynamics from The Ohio State University, and his PhD in Physical Meteorolgy from Florida State University. His research interests include microwave remote sensing of the environment, development of weather signal processing algorithms, and atmospheric effects on military systems such as high energy lasers and weapons of mass destruction
