Homework: Skim back over worksheet packet pages 41-50 so you are familiar with where to find the info on elements, compounds, and mixtures. You need to locate that packet now so you can refer to it as you are rotating through lab stations.

Worksheet packets: When completing worksheet packets, here are some do’s and don’ts: 1. DO write page numbers in the blanks provided. Required. Many of you got answers wrong that were right there in the text. READ! 2. DO underline and highlight if the directions call for it. Required. It isn’t a bad idea even if the directions don’t call for it. How can you honestly answer a question like, ”How did underlining help you?” when you didn’t even underline? 3. DON’T draw arrows from the answer lines to a paragraph in the reading. The answer lines are for you to write answers. Research shows that writing helps you learn the material. 4. You DON’T have to do activities like making foldables or “create a quiz”.

Let’s grade the Periodic table Basics project.

Periodic table basics You have about 10-15 minutes to look over your mini-p.t. and make sure you have detailed info about the properties of each element. This includes physical and chemical properties. Is it a metal, nonmetal or metalloid? How many valence electrons? I gave you a lot of info about Groups 1 and 17(7A). Be specific about their levels of reactivity and what forms when they react/bond with each other. Hint: use the notes I gave you on the vocab. sheet. Remember that all elements, except the noble gases (8A) have some level of reactivity. Check your Bohr and Lewis diagrams. Go over the questions with your group. Make sure you have all questions answered and that your answers match. I will choose 1 purple sheet per group to grade and each group member will get that same grade.

You need to locate the worksheet packet containing pp. 41- 50. It contains information about elements, compounds, and mixtures. Refer to these pages as needed during the lab. There are 8 stations. The link for Station 5 is on my “Useful Links” page. The PowerPoints for Stations 6 and 7 are on my “Class Documents” page. You will rotate in numerical order of stations. We’ll try to get through a couple of them today. Let’s get to the labs. Keep your noise level in check.
