Writing Body Paragraph 1 of Your Mini-Essay

What are the 5 parts of the perfect paragraph?

1. Topic sentence

2. Elaboration of topic sentence

3. Evidence

Reinforcement of Evidence

5. Conclusion

Topic sentence: (1 sentence) Identify a character trait that you think will change for your character. Do not cite the author or novel title. This should be a trait that your character exhibits on many occasions This should be a defining characteristic for your character—a trait that is at the core of who the character is

Elaboration of topic sentence (2-3 sentences) Continue to develop and support claim about your character. Where/when do you see your character behave this way? Provide context for your quote

Evidence (1-2 sentences) Introduce your quote with a tag Select a short, relevant, and interesting quotation to prove your claim

Evidence Reinforcement (2-4 sentences) Use your quotation to support your claim Why/how does the quotation prove the trait describes the character?

Conclusion (1 sentence) Present character trait is a more thorough way, and include an insight about the character and/or trait
