Welcome Back! To preview what we are going to do this afternoon, please go to this website http://websites.pdesas.org/shunt Read the announcement on the first page, and follow the instructions in RED on each page in the website. If you finish early, take some time to gather some more Materials & Resources.

SASIT 1 Training Teacher Tools

Admin Tools A collection of administrative tools for those users who will have administrative access to SAS. User Management Content Submission Peer Review At this point it has not been determined who will have access to the Admin Tools sections of the site. PDE will be making decisions regarding access, and will notify individuals who will be trained to utilize these tools.

My Profile The information provided in this section will be used to manage your SAS account: Manage personal information Identify professional interests Change a password This area will be expanded to include additional user information, such as school/district affiliation, school/district mailing address and website address.

Portal Time – My Profile Click on Teacher Tools Select My Profile

My ePortfolio A web-based, portable filing cabinet Create organizational folders Add resources Add to My ePortfolio Upload File Add Bookmark You can store virtually any file you want – word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, images – as long as it is already saved to your computer or another storage device. There are two file types that cannot be saved to the ePortfolio; HTML files (.html, .htm) files and Bitmap image files (.bmp).

Portal Time – My ePortfolio Click on Teacher Tools Select My ePortfolio

My Website Develop a classroom website to enhance communication between students, parents, and colleagues.   Modify the site to reflect: Specific classes you teach Events relevant to your class or school Resources you want available for yourself, colleagues, students, and/or parents

Default Website These are the default settings for a SAS website. All users start out with a blue header with the SAS circles logo, one page (the Home Page) and a dark blue background surrounding the web pages. These settings are modified on the Website Settings tab in the My Website section of the portal.

Your Website Address Betty Teacher’s email address, and therefore username, is bteacher@mydistrict.com SAS website addresses are all similar http://websites.pdesas.org/username Betty’s website address would be http://websites.pdesas.org/bteacher The first half of a user’s email address (before the @ symbol) is used as a portion of the website address.

Disabled Websites All websites are disabled by default Educational Use Only Does not violate the rights of others Does not contain abusive, vulgar, or objectionable language Does not encourage conduct that would be considered a criminal offense Does not contain any solicitation for products or services Websites are disabled until a user logs into the SAS portal and enables their website on the Website Builder tab in the My Website section of the portal. There is a Terms of Use statement that users must agree with before they can build a site. It can be accessed from the Footer menu in the portal. We have had instances in the past with other projects where a teacher has lost website privileges for creating websites with overt religious, racist, or political themes (e.g., to share a grievance regarding a teacher union issue).

Portal Time – My Website Click on Teacher Tools Select My Website

Custom Page Header and Copyright The Custom Page Header will appear in at least 2 places – in the heading of the site itself, and also in the Title Bar of the window. If you are working in a tabbed web browser, such as Firefox or Internet Explorer 8, the header text may also appear on the tab. The Copyright Statement will appear to the bottom-right of every page within the website.

SAS Rich-Text Editor The rich-text editor operates very much like a typical word processing program. The Title of a Page appears above the editor, and can be changed at any time. Whatever information is typed into the editor below the toolbars (where the text ‘Type here…” appears) is visible on this page in the website. Advanced users can click on HTML in the bottom toolbar to edit their pages using HTML coding (Hypertext Markup Language) This slide is animated, and pictures will layer as your advance the slide. The two questions at the bottom of the editor are important. “Show this page on your website menu?” is checked by default. This allows the page to be visible in the list of pages on the Website Builder tab. “Make this webpage available online?” is unchecked by default. Users should place a checkmark in that box when they are ready to share this page online with visitors to their website.

Teacher Tools: Check For Understanding Create a website Include (at minimum): 1 page 1 sub-page 2 images 2 hyperlinks (1 to SAS content, 1 to a site on the Internet) 1 uploaded file 1 announcement Be prepared to share with the group!
