Mr. Chavel School Year 2017-2018 Teacher Talk

Thank You! For allowing me to partner with you to help your young person be all that he is intended to be! For taking time out of your busy schedule to come for tonight’s “Teacher Talk!”

My Granddaughters

Theme for 2017-2018 "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company ... a church ... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude ... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you ... we are in charge of our Attitudes."    ~Charles Swindoll

Topics Covered in Math 1a Expressions, Equations, and Functions Linear Equations Linear Functions Equations of Linear Functions Linear Inequalities Systems of Linear Equations

Homework and Grading Homework checked daily for effort (0-10 grade) Will count toward a daily average. Homework is posted on the website as well as a description of the topic covered in class Tests, Quizzes, Projects – given throughout and graded for: Knowledge & Accuracy – How accurate is the student’s work? Problem Solving – Does the student try different approaches? Does the student make connections to prior knowledge and apply it to new problems? Grading in Math 1a The percentage grade is determined using the following process: Test/Project – 60%, Quiz – 30%, Daily – 10% The final grade will be found using the formula: Average of the four quarter percentage grades * 80% + Final Exam Grade * 20%
