Project Checklist 150 pts Everything due Monday/Tuesday 100 pts story 50 pts layout Everything due Monday/Tuesday (There is a different assignment for Finals Week, so you shouldn’t need more than a few minutes on Monday to touch up and print out)

STORY – 100 pts Headline (catch phrase) Subheadline (summary sentence) Creative lead Quotes (non-J1) – Answer ‘why’ not ‘what’ NO – “I usually put in 20 hours a week at the preschool. I don’t get paid.” YES – Smith, who volunteers an average of 20 hours each week at the preschool, said, “I don’t get paid, but it’s okay. I’ll work for money later. This is something I really like to do, and I get my community service hours.”

STORY, CONT Stays focused on topic No opinions/stay in 3rd person Interesting, deep information Locally relevant (not just generalities and national statistics) FOLLOWS AP STYLE (quotes, numbers esp.) Good paragraph structure and good editing Follows any of the other 10 rules of feature writing not mentioned yet
