Learning Target: I can analyze primary sources to understand the impact Upton Sinclair had during the Progressive Era. Do Now: Take out homework How would you describe the United States socially during the time period of industrialization?

Progressive (of a group, person, or idea) favoring or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas.

Progressive Era The Progressive Era was a period of social activism and political reform in the United States that flourished from the 1890s to the 1920s. Muckraker reform minded journalists who search for and expose real or alleged corruption, scandal, especially in politics.

Upton Sinclair Wrote “ The Jungle” filled with nauseating details that he had discovered about the meat/food packing industry. Nation was astonished about what Sinclair had found, including President Teddy Roosevelt. Book became a best seller.
