Scientific Method Review!

1. List the steps on the Scientific Method…IN ORDER!!

2. Describe the difference between a Qualitative and Quantitative Observation

3. What must be included in a proper conclusion?

Three students conducted an experiment to find out how increasing the amount of weight they carried, while completing an obstacle course, affected their speed through the course. They first completed the course without carrying weights. In the second and third trials, they carried 5 and 10-pound weights. 4. What is the control group? What is a possible control variable?

Three students conducted an experiment to find out how increasing the amount of weight they carried, while completing an obstacle course, affected their speed through the course. They first completed the course without carrying weights. In the second and third trials, they carried 5 and 10-pound weights. 5. What is the dependent variable? What is the independent variable?

Three students conducted an experiment to find out how increasing the amount of weight they carried, while completing an obstacle course, affected their speed through the course. They first completed the course without carrying weights. In the second and third trials, they carried 5 and 10-pound weights. 6. Write a testable hypothesis based on this experiment.

7. How must you write correct procedures for a lab?

Answers! 1. Question, Research, Hypothesis, Experiment, Analysis, and Conclusion. 2. Qualitative observations: based on the five senses Quantitative observations: must be measurements (numbers)

More Answers. 3. -Accept or reject hypothesis -Answer to your question More Answers! 3. -Accept or reject hypothesis -Answer to your question. -What you would do differently next time. -Why you got the results that you did. 4. Control group: not lifting any weights Control variable: same track/same time of day etc.

More Answers! 5. Dependent: Speed of Runner Independent: Amount of weight carried 6. If a student carries 10 pound weights while completing an obstacle course, then the course will be completed slower than if the person were not carrying weights.

More Answers. 7. –No personal pronouns More Answers! 7. –No personal pronouns! -Must be in numbered order -Must be clear and concise (one action per step) -Must include exact measurements -Must start with a verb
