Volunteers Our club runs on volunteers Over 150 volunteers required to run any given regatta Be polite – everybody is doing their best Questions/concerns – find a Board member State rowing association (VASRA) – One Local Organizing Committee (LOC) position for WSHS LOC Documentation Operations Volunteers – launches, ergs, etc. Board positions Ways and Means and committee reps turn over this year Novice Liaison and SpiritWear Photo and video
On the Water Monday – Saturday, until regattas start Monday – Friday, after regattas start Regattas every Saturday beginning March 25th Practice times: 4:30 to 6:30 (time adjustment subject to sunset/daylight savings time starting 12 March) MUST EXIT Sandy Run Park BY DARK. Sunset on first day of on the water practice will be at 5:54 PM All practices and regattas at Sandy Run Exception – Stotesbury and Nationals We WILL have practice the week of Spring Break Schedule TBD
On the Water Cold, cold, cold – dress warm with layers (“Under Armor” ideal) but nothing that will get caught in slide Lots of land training for several weeks Orientation Inexperienced rowers Behavior at boathouse No profanity Respect others’ property SAFETY FIRST! Crowded Practice extra safety in wet terrain Communication paramount – Captains and Coaches *Check website under the links “On the Water Practices” and “Especially for Novices” for detailed information
Sandy Run Regional Park Check Crew website for detailed directions Sandy Run is a rowing only facility Park Manager – Crystal Wilson SPEED LIMIT STRICTLY ENFORCED BY RADAR 15 MILES PER HOUR Teenage drivers beware – will be asked to leave the park for unsafe driving Unsafe drivers will be/have been reported to Fairfax County Police by residents. http://www.nvrpa.org/park/sandy_run/

Administration Completed by now, by just about everyone: Online registration FCPS Emergency Care Form VHSL Physical Swim test (novices) or waiver Submitted “WSCBC Rower and Parent/Guardian Responsibilities” Still required from some families before Feb 21st (start of on- the-water training) Online concussion training (rower and at least one parent/guardian) Additional requirements in order to be certified for regatta participation: US Rowing Waiver (by Mar 1st, parents must sign for rowers under 18) Current on all dues payments Signed up to meet regatta volunteer requirement Contact Regan Burmeister at admin@spartancrew.org if you have any questions

SPARTAN CREW Tent successful Regatta Food Tent Tent Committee: Debbie Waldman and Angie Basham and 1 more parent leader!! Duties: Alternate collection of donated food, manage sunrise tent set up on Regatta days MISSION: Provide nourishment & place to rest MANY HELPING HANDS needed to make our SPARTAN CREW Tent successful TTSU volunteers slots for tent, table & chair set up, food set up, monitor, clean up and break down tent/equipment for each Regatta and return to boathouse storage Parents can also help by… Assisting with Beverages, Breakfast, Lunch and Grab & Go snacks for rowers, paper products & first aid stock supplies Contact: sabasham@gmail.com
