1. Identify and explain five things you see in this picture. 2. Put yourself in President Nixon’s shoes upon finding out that this tragedy happened. How do you react? Do you blame the students? Do you punish your own military? Some thing or some one else? Explain your answer. 3. Explain this ugly event in US history in terms of the 1960’s/1970’s counterculture youth movement. To do this, first explain what a counterculture movement is and then put it in terms of the Vietnam War protests.

1. Compare this protest to the protests of today in places like Ferguson, MO and Baltimore, Which do you feel is more impactful and why? 2. Keeping in mind that this was done to protest the South Vietnamese government and their treatment of Buddhists, do you believe this demonstration would increase or decrease the American citizens’ desire to aid South Vietnam?
