4.1 Notes – Nutrients for Health carbohydrates – the starches and sugars that provide energy simple carbohydrates –Simple carbohydrates are also known as sugars. Chocolate, pizza, soft drinks complex carbohydrates – Complex carbohydrates are often referred to as starch or starchy foods. They are found naturally in foods and also refined in processed foods. Fruits, peanuts, cereals, breads, pastas proteins – nutrients used to repair body cells and tissues

4.1 Notes – Nutrients for Health fats – nutrients that supply energy, keep the skin healthy, and promote normal growth saturated fats – fats that are solid at room temperature Meat, chicken, dairy products unsaturated fats – fats that are liquid at room temperature oil, nuts, olives, avocados vitamins – substances that help to regulate the body’s functions, produce energy, & fight infections
