The Pure Spiritual Milk When you are born again, do what newborns do. Long for (spiritual) milk. (1 Peter 2:1) Peter is not speaking only to new believers, but to all believers. (1 Peter 2:1) The “spiritual milk” in 1 Peter 2:2 is the word of God, that is the gospel. (1 Peter 1:23–25) The same word that brought us to life sustains us each day. A newborn person tastes the goodness of the Lord in this milk. (Psalm 34:8) When we’re filled with spiritual milk, we become content with who we are in Christ. The desires for hypocrisy and deceit fade away. (1 Peter 2:1–3) The remedy for envy comes from knowing and tasting the goodness and kindness of the Lord (1 Peter 2:3). His mercy and his kindness will make envy seem utterly inappropriate

 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Peter pleads with all to come to Christ, the rejected one. (1 Peter 2:4) ◾As you come to Christ, participate in the life of the rejected stone (“as living stones”). (1 Peter 2:5) ◾God is fitting us together as living stones into a place of worship. (1 Peter 2:5) ◾First, we are together a spiritual house of worship. Then, we are together a priesthood who makes sacrifices to God. (1 Peter 2:5) ◾The sacrifices we make here are sacrifices of obedience, putting away the desires and passions of the flesh. (1 Peter 2:1) ◾C– obedience is not adequate to a God who expects perfection, but our lives are made acceptable to God through Christ. Christ’s rejection on our behalf covers all the inadequacies of our acts of obedience

11 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.

Chosen for an Identity

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Chosen Race It is you who are a "chosen race." A new race! Not that old race ceases, but that the new race identity is 10,000 times more important. Red and yellow, black and white are beautiful, but "Christian" is 10,000 times more beautiful. Are those your racial priorities

Royal Priesthood Verse 9b: It is you who are a "royal priesthood." In the service of the king, every Christian represents God to his brothers and sisters (in exhortation and encouragement), and every Christian represents the brothers and sisters to God (in prayer). We are all priests

Holy Nation Verse 9c: It is you who are a "holy nation." The words are ethnos hagion. A holy "ethnicity." A new ethnicity! "Set apart" for God. A God-ethnicity. Not nullifying all other ethnicities, but subordinating them to this new identity. A Christ-ethnicity. The royal priesthood defines your dignity , that the holy nation your purity .

Chosen for a lifestyle

13 Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution,[b] whether it be to the emperor[c] as supreme, 14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants[d] of God. 17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor

18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. 19 For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. 20 For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.

Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.

7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

6 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.

Chosen For suffering

21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. 22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
