Management Funcitions Planning – Setting goals Organizing – Structuring resources Leading/motivating – guiding people to act Controlling – Checking to see if and how goals are met

Elements of Model Goal – Purpose of communication Record – Put information on record; make sure it is available somewhere for someone Inform – Let the receiver know, so he/she can do whatever is desired Persuade – Convince the receiver to do what you want

Communication Networks Wheel – messages travel to and from one central person Chain – messages travel from one person to another in a known sequence - Typically messages move in one direction with no feedback from lower chain

Communication Networks Circle – Messages are exchanged among persons with similar responsibilities regardless of organizational status All-channel – messages move back and forth among all members of a group as those members determine who needs to know what
