In order to Graduate Earning Your Shield Students need 24 units to graduate Credits need to be earned in specific subject areas Students are required to complete 20 hours of community service by the completion of junior year.

Requirements for graduating High School Required Area of Study1 Units Required English Language Arts 4 Mathematics Science Social Studies 3 Health & Physical Education 1 World Language 3 College Prep Pathway or Or 1 CTAE Pathway CTAE Pathway *(must be in approved sequence of courses) Electives 5 College Prep Pathway Students OR 4 CTAE Pathway Students Total Minimum Units 24

Requirements for promotion to the 10th grade Students must: Earn 1 Credit in Mathematics Earn 1 Credit in Science Earn 1 Credit in Social Studies Earn 1 Credit in Language Arts Earn 1 Credit in an elective course

Students who enter Grade 9 in 2013-2014 and beyond are required to complete a Career Pathway. There are four (4) Pathway Options: CTAE (Career Technical and Agricultural) 4 units in a coherent sequence of CTAE courses leading to college readiness and a career readiness certificate endorsed by related industries Advanced Academic English, Math, Science, Social Studies Fine Arts Visual Arts, Theater, Music, World Languages French, Spanish

How is Your Grade Calculated? (Q1 + Q2)/2 = FINAL GRADE (Q1 + Q2 )/2= Class Average Class Average x 80% = Grade 1 EOC x 20% = Grade 2 Grade 1 + Grade 2 = FINAL GRADE

How is Your GPA Calculated? GPA Scale Example Student First Semester 2015 Grade of A = 4 points Grade of B = 3 points Grade of C = 2 points Grade of F = 0 points Total points earned/Number of classes World History : A = 4 points Environmental Science: C = 2 points Algebra I: F = 0 points 9th Grade Lit: B = 3 points 9 points/4 classes = GPA of 2.25 What does that mean? The average GPA for students accepted for early admissions at the University of Georgia was a…….4.0 That means these students never received less than an “A” in EVERY class they took in high school!

4 x 4 Block Schedule (Sample) 9th Grade Environmental Science Semester 1 Aug – Dec Semester 2 Jan - May 1st Block 9th Grade Literature 90 min 1st Block World History 2nd JROTC I JROTC II 3rd Algebra 1 Environmental Science 4th Health/PE Intro to Business and Technology Students will take 4 classes during the first semester. Each class will be 90 minutes long. Grades for these classes will be issued after the first semester. Students will then take four different classes second semester. Grades for these classes will be issued at the end of the year. Students will take 8 classes during the 2014-2015 school year. Students, ideally, will take 2 academic classes each semester.
