Year 2 Project The ABA/VB program: an overview Lauren Janyszek Amy Beaver May 8, 2012

Project Description Created a presentation about the ABA/VB program Educate schools which are opening or currently have ABA/VB classrooms. Familiarize regular education teachers and school staff who have little to no experience with or knowledge of the program. Covers topics such as terms used by the staff in the classrooms, behavior protocols, and autism.

Why? Personal experiences Lack of knowledge about program

Goals To expand upon knowledge of autism To increase comprehension of the ABA/VB program To define the behavior protocols which are embedded in the ABA/VB program To develop awareness of the ABA/VB program and the students which it serves

Competency Development Created a survey to measure baseline knowledge and feelings about the ABA/VB program. Researched the following topics: Applied Behavior Analysis, Verbal Behavior, autism, language operants, positive behavior supports, etc. Developed a PowerPoint presentation based on the information gathered. Presentation will be given at the start of the 2012-2013 school year. Post survey will be given to participants to measure changes in knowledge and feelings

Impact to Student Achievement Help regular education staff in our schools to be more open, involved, and aware of our program and it’s students Knowledge of ABA/VB will encourage new inclusion opportunities for our students

Impact on Educators Provides us with a tool to educate our peers Allows us to take a leadership role in the advocacy of our students Expanded upon our knowledge of the program Could be used by other ABA/VB teachers in their schools Spread knowledge and awareness to many other educators across the county
