Analysing Interviews By Veronika Pumputyte

Yungen’s interview The interview that I have chosen to analyse is Yungen’s who is an MC and is talking about a few personal and public subjects such as other MC’s, being kidnapped as a kid and etc. The interview was filmed at “Not For The Radio” (NFTR) studio. Settings of the interview are quite simple as the background is quite simple: it’s just a few paper walls with NFTR logo all over it. There are 3 interviewers and an interviewee and there is a microphone for each of them. Each interviewer has also got a lap top in front of them with questions that they want to ask (the laptops have also got NFTR logo stickers on them) this is a good way of advertising the company/project. Camera shots were not very professional in my opinion as every time someone spoke the camera would move to them (it is a good way to film as you know who to pay attention to), but the camera man was not always aware of who is going to be talking next so a few shots weren’t clear and the shots were moving from one person to another. I have chosen this interview as I thought it was unusual as Yungen was simply having a friendly conversation with the interviewers and it made it look more natural. They did not use the formal language, they were talking slang and it was easy too watch. The video was not edited so there were no jump cuts what also made it look more natural. At the time the interview was filmed Yungen was not signed and the interview was not for the television it was only posted on NFTR YouTube channel that should of made him feel more comfortable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65Y0vvDQLZA – interview was found on this link, last accessed 09/03/2016

Krept & konan Second interview that I have chosen to analyse is Krept & Konan’s interview on Channel 4 News. They are also rappers like Yungen the difference is they have been signed and the interview was taking place on different settings. Krept & Konan talk about representing UK grime/hip hop music in other countries and musical clash between Yungen and Chip. The interview was taking place at Channel 4 studio and had a TV in the background that had a picture of Krept & Konan’s most viewed video “Freak Of The Week”, this is a good way of advertising. Camera shots were different all the way throughout the video; There was an establishing shot, profile, side shot and etc. You could definitely tell that there was more than one camera filming this interview. The way Krept & Konan were talking was definitely more professional than Yungen’s but that only proves that you have to think on the way you talk in different situations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjXlbu4Lzds – interview was found on this link last accessed on 09/03/2016
