Chapter 5- Problem Solving Strategies for Collaborative School Consultation and Teamwork Julie Kraemer

The Problem-Solving Process Co-educators exercise their perception and judgment in order to determine the students’ needs and set learning and behavior goals for them, which requires well-honed problem solving skills. There is not one set formula or “recipe” but each problem has similar steps to work through- a 10 step problem solving process

Ten-Step Process for Collaborative Problem Solving Prepare for the consultation Initiate the consultation Collect and organize relevant information Isolate the problem Identify concerns and realities about the problem

6. Generate solutions 7. Formulate a plan 8. Evaluate progress and process 9. Follow through and follow up on the consultation about the situation 10. Repeat or continue consultation as appropriate

Activity: Watch video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SImibAiK7Hw While watching- look for each of the 10 steps for collaborative problem solving.
