Some big questions for the school system How do we ensure that research/evidence is valued as an important resource for school improvement? How do we make evidence accessible and useable for schools? How do we support schools to use that evidence in their classroom practice?

Why engage with Oldham Research School? We are part of a large network of Research Schools, The EEF and the IEE. Together we aim to support other schools to make better use of evidence to inform their teaching and learning: Communication – Regular updates on new research and its usefulness to teachers Training – Delivering CPD on using research to improve classroom practice Innovation – Support schools to develop and evaluate innovative ways of improving teaching and learning

Working out what works, together.

What we will do Filter out what’s useful, from what’s useless or just interesting. Summarise the key points for busy teachers. Help teachers to mobilise this into their classrooms. Help teachers to evaluate the impact of their work. Share effective practice from across the network. Communication Training Innovation

Keynote Professor Daniel Muijs is Associate Dean Research and Enterprise for the Faculty of Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences and Professor of Education at Southampton Education School. Developing metacognition- what does the evidence suggest?

Table discussion Making evidence work for Oldham How can the Research School best support Oldham’s schools? How can schools support the Research School? How can the wider system (The OEP, The Opportunity Area Board, the Chartered College, Teaching Schools etc) work with schools and the Research School?

James joined the EEF in September 2013 after ten years working in schools as a teacher, Head of Faculty and Assistant Headteacher.
