Objectives The GFOI’s Methods & Guidance Documentation (MGD) Component co-ordinates the development and makes available methods and guidance materials in support of REDD+ measurement, reporting and verification (MRV). These materials provide a foundation for consistent communication within GFOI and to our external stakeholders. We do this though the publication of the MGD and its Modules then make the material more accessible through the REDDcompass. Other partners material that is consistent with the MGD can then also be integrated into REDDcompass to consolidate the efforts of GFOI partners rather than replicating effort.

Achievements REDDcompass launched in April 2016 and has established a strong user base (www.gfoi.org/reddcompass) Collaborative effort between GFOI components to demonstrate REDDcompass and encourage uptake MGD Edition 2.0 released October 2016 French and Spanish versions now available New Chair for the MGD Advisory Group Maria Sans Sanchez Country Uptake Silvacarbon engaged dedicated person focused on MGD content and REDDcompass Delivered REDDcompass training and University Masters level subject on REDD+ MRV based on MGD and REDDcompass Improved communication structures Communications and Assessment Readiness Level (CARL) framework Documentation of Advisory Group terms of reference and operational structures 2017

REDDcompass Progressively work through the key themes, concepts and actions of REDD+ National Forest Monitoring Systems (NFMS) for Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) gaining access to a suite of GFOI methods and guidance, space data resources, training materials and tools along the way.

User uptake of REDDcompass Since its launch April 2016 3000 unique users completing 6000 sessions 50% returning user base Users from 101 different countries Resulting in 33,000 content page views More than 3000 details have been added to the system by registered users

Updates to MGD content Incorporate experiences from country engagement and new developments (UNFCCC, methodological): More visual material (flow charts, decision trees) Consistent structure between MGD and REDDcompass (as they are one and the same) updates on institutional arrangements strengthen guidance on integrated methods more complete material on statistical inference (emission factors as well as area data) and uncertainties Include module material developed over the course of the year (global datasets, reference levels, statistical inference) Updates from UNFCCC (Paris, reference level submissions) Updated core data availability
