Brief Regarding National Survey for Jordan on V-RMTC and T-RMN Presented by Colonel Ibrahim S. ALNAIMAT Chief, Naval Operations Dept Royal Jordanian Navy

Contribution to National Situational Awareness V-RMTC and T-RMN help enhance Jordan’s ability to evaluate and deal with all the issues and applications related to security in the Jordanian Territorial waters V-RMTC and T-RMN help in countering all illegal activities within the territorial waters of the country through providing all necessary information needed to work against them, such activities may include but not limited to: (1) Smuggling. (2) Piracy. (3) Terrorism. (4) Narcotics Trafficking.

Contribution to National Situational Awareness cont……. V-RMTC and T-RMN help provide safe and secure passages for all commercial shipping The system also enhanced the early warning system and the ability to forecast incidents and mishaps prior to their happening in a way which could prevent them or mitigate their effects They contribute to the ability of the Royal Jordanian Naval Force in conducting Search and Rescue operations within the territorial waters of Jordan The information provided can be used by other governmental agencies in Aqaba, notably the Ports Corporation and the Jordan Maritime Authority

Data Required for Future Decision Making Process Manifest of the Crew Earlier notification for sensitive cargo

Available Tools which are Deemed Useful Vessel's name International call sign Flag state and IMO number Tonnage Owner Origin and destination Cargo The above mentioned information had helped identify all shipping in the area and justify the reason why they would exist within the territorial waters of the country

Considerations for Planning System Development Investigating in the possibility of making the V-RMTC and T-RMN work in a way similar to the MSSIS (Maritime Safety and Security Information System) where all information can be taken directly from the system and updated every 6 minutes without having to send or receive emails Encourage other countries to participate in such initiatives

Other Issues Exercise T-RISE which was conducted in September of 2010 was very useful for the purposes of V-RMTC and T-RMN and should be expanded Establishing a Steering Group for V-RMTC and T-RMN is a good governing body, other governance options may discussed during the meetings
