The Titanic by Mark Hoey People thought this was an unsinkable ship but how wrong were they. by Mark Hoey

Belfast in the early 1900s People were poor some were rich but most were poor People worked very hard But a lot of people smoked When people heard about the Titanic they were excited

The building of Titanic Six thousand shipbuilders began work at Harold and Wolff’s shipyard in Belfast For ten months workers fitted out the ship First class bedrooms and parlour were decorated to resemble rooms in mansion and palaces Dining saloons for second and third class passengers were better than those on other ships. But first class had much nicer ones

Why build the Titanic The Titanic was built to carry people and other supplies to New York such as: Cigars Cutlery food

The launch of Titanic The launch of the titanic was a big day for some. When they launched the ship some people even died because it was so tall and some people drowned pushing it out It took the builders a long time to build it so they were very happy.

Fitting out When people entered the ship there was three classes: First class Second class Third class It was packed and crowded First class tickets cost £30

Maiden voyage Captain Edward J. Smith had a lot to feel happy about. He was commanding a majestic ship on its maiden voyage, the sea was calm and they were making good time. In fact they thought the might even reach New York ahead of schedule. Captain Edward J. Smith nickname was The millionaires captain.

The sinking of Titanic At 11:40pm the wireless operator said we are surrounded by ice. No one on the Titanic seemed to understand the danger ahead. An enormous wall of Ice appeared in front of them. The iceberg grazed the Titanic’s starboard slicing holes in the hull. It was 02:20 when the ice-berg slipped under the north Alantic.

Rescuing the passengers It was not an easy task to rescue people. Some first class people were very selfish, they didn’t want a lower class person in their life boat. A lot of the life-boats that left the great ship were not full.

Survivors Jack Thayer boarded the Titanic. He was in first class area. When the flood arose Jack and his parents jumped over the edge. A rescue boat came and rescued him. Most of the passengers that survived were from the first class area. C.H Lightoller was the only officer to survive the great disaster.
