Tuesday – A Day Of Controversy Questions of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Matthew 22:15-40 Jesus condemns the scribes and Pharisees (seven woes) Matthew 23:1-31 His prophecy regarding the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. Matthew 24:1-35 Jesus’ discussion with the disciples regarding his second coming and the judgment of all nations. Matthew 24:36-25:46

Tuesday – A Day Of Controversy Matthew 25:46, “And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life.”

Note: The Leaders Of The Jews Wanted To Kill Jesus Note: The Leaders Of The Jews Wanted To Kill Jesus. Matthew 26:3-5; Mark 14:1-2 Plot began early. Thursday –The Passover The History Of The Passover. Exodus 12 The Preparation For The Passover. Matthew 26:17- 19; Mark 14:12-16; *Luke 22:7-13 On the fifth day (Thursday), the 14th day of Nisan, Jesus commanded Peter and John to prepare for the Passover meal. Luke 22:7-13 “… they had to buy the lamb, carry it to the temple, and have it killed there, and the blood sprinkled in the name of the paschal lamb or a passover for thirteen people … After killing the lamb they would carry it to the place where it was to be eaten …” (H. Leo Boles, page 500) The lamb was roasted and other food prepared, unleavened bread and bitter herbs. (Exodus 12:8)

Thursday – Judas’ Plot – Matthew 26:14-16; Mark 14:10- 11; *Luke 22:3-6 Who was Judas? One of the twelve. He was a thief (John 12:5-6). He was a traitor. “The devil” had “already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him” (John 13:2) but “Satan entered him” cf. Cain. Genesis 4:7

Thursday – Judas’ Plot – *Matthew 26:6-16; Mark 14:10-11; Luke 22:3-6 Note Background. “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him to you?” Matthew 26:15 NKJV “And they were glad, and agreed to give him money.” Luke 22:5 NKJV 30 Pieces of silver. The price of a slave. Exodus 21:32 The considered worth of a shepherd. cf. Zechariah 11:12

Thursday – The Passover The Passover Meal. Matthew 26:20; Mark 14:17; *Luke 22:14-18, 24-30 “Before I suffer.” Luke 22:15 Christ is our lamb (John 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:7) and so Luke is leading us to the crucifixion. Jesus told them earlier: “The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day raise up.” Luke 9:22 “But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished!” Luke 12:50- 51NKJV

Thursday – The Passover Meal “Last Supper” cf. Luke 22:14-18 This would be the last time Jesus would physically eat the Passover with His disciples while He was on earth. The next time would be spiritual. It would involve His presence with disciples in commemorating His death in His kingdom. (cf. Mark 9:1; Acts 1:3)

Thursday – The Passover Meal Judas’ Betrayal Foretold. – Matthew 26:21-25; Mark 14:18-21; *Luke 22:21-23; John 13:21-35 One of you will betray me. Matthew 26:20- 21 Jesus fortold that the one who dipped the bread with Him would betray Him. Matthew 26:22-23; see Psalms 41:9 Would be good for that man if he had not been born. Matthew 26:24 Matthew 26:25, “And Judas, who betrayed him, answered and said, Is it I, Rabbi? He saith unto him, Thou hast said.”

Thursday – The Passover Meal Peter’s Denial Foretold. Matthew 26:31-35; Mark 14:27-31; *Luke 22:31-38; John 13:36-38 1. He would be tempted. Overconfident: Matthew 26:33, “If all shall be offended in thee, I will never be offended.” Luke 22:33, “And he said unto him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.” Jesus prayed for him. 2. He would yield to the temptation before morning. 3. He would be restored.

Thursday –The Passover Meal The Institution Of The Lord’s Supper. Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; *Luke 22:19-20; cf. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 “This do in remembrance of me.” Remember His death. Matthew 26:28 Remember His love. Romans 5:8 Remember the horror of sin. Romans 6:23; Hebrews 9:22; 10:1ff Makes the New Covenant possible. Hebrews 9:16 Makes Remission possible. Ephesians 1:7
