Section ONE REVIEW What were the political parties in the election of 1800, and who were their candidates? Describe the election results. What political ideas does Jefferson express in his inaugural address? How did Jefferson and Congress put his Democratic-Republican ideas into practice? What was the Judiciary Act of 1801? Why did Federalist members of Congress pass the act? What happened as a result of James Madison’s refusal to deliver William Marbury’s appointment papers (Marbury v. Madison)

Section TWO REVIEW As American settlers moved West, control of the Mississippi River became more important to the United States. What had occurred between the Appalachians and the Mississippi River by the early 1800s? What major port city was located at the southern tip of the Louisiana Territory? Why was it so important to settlers in the western regions of the United States? Which two nations controlled Louisiana and New Orleans?
