King Louis XVI in Power As a young ruler Louis felt unqualified for the job. At the beginning of his absolute monarchy he stated that he “must always consult public opinion; it is never wrong.” He even tried to reinstate parliament to win over his fellow noble men and subjects. Most of his attempts to save France failed and his power started to weaken.

A Weak Monarchy When the Third Estates general ruled France as a National Assembly it became the base of the French Revolution. King Louis tried to control it by calling in the National Constituent of Assembly and the Tennis Court Oath. The majority of the executive representatives sided to elect representatives of the peoples nation. Thus begins the French Revolution.

King Louis’s Last Days After being forced out of the families royal palace by their subjects in revolt against them they were sent to Paris. There Louis’s power was limited to almost nothing, he nor his family no longer had a say in politics. When his family was caught fleeing to Austria to get away from Paris’s laws of what they considered immortality they were caught and brought back. When brought back to Paris Louis XVI was sent to court for leaving his people behind and fleeing to Austria. He was found guilty and sent to the stake. King Louis XVI of France died January 21 1793.
