Monday, March 20, 2017 Week 30/Day 128 EQ How do I write assess various arguments from a controversial or debatable topic? Standards: LAFS.910.W.1.3 d. Use precise words and phrases, telling details, and sensory language to convey a vivid picture of the experiences, events, setting, and/or characters. (Level 3) LAFS.910.L.3.4b Identify and correctly use patterns of word changes that indicate different meanings or parts of speech (e.g., analyze, analysis, analytical; advocate, advocacy). (Level 2) Bellfun Answer the Bellfun questions with complete sentences and honestly  Classfun 1. Class Discussion (1-2) people discuss their answers to the Bellfun questions 2. Read (individually) “Distracted to Death” in the March 13, 2017 issue of the Upfront magazine, p. 10-12 (Note: I only have enough copies for a class set, so the students cannot take them with them) 3. Respond to the article using the GP format (students know what this is—fluently) 4. Read: “Meet the textalyzer” p. 13 Create a Pro/con chart for the textalyzer—give 3 reasons on either side. Bellfun Questions Do you think texting and driving is a major safety issue? Why or Why not? In your opinion, are there more important “dangers” on the highways? Are teenage drivers more, or less likely to be a danger with regard to texting or driving? Why or why not? Do you think you will text and drive when you get your license?

Short Essay Response Questions Why are people (we) tempted to text and drive despite knowing full well the possible consequences of our actions? After looking at the map on p. 12, give three observations you can make from the information given on the map.
