Medical Records Administrator Works with patient records. Stores charts and ensures confidentiality!! Where would they work? OFFICE!!

Psychiatrist vs. Psychologist A psychologist primarily aids the depressed patient by counseling and psychotherapy. A psychiatrist may also perform psychotherapy; but, in addition, can prescribe medications and perform ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). SO: Who makes more money? * Psychiatrist!!!

Physician This is another term for a doctor. Can work in many different areas. Can earn up to $300,000 a year!!! Doctor of Medicine (MD)-focuses on disease treatment, prevention and diagnoses!!

Doctor of Osteopathy-DO Goes to medical school like an MD, but uses a holistic approach. Special emphasis on nervous and muscular system and the relationship between the body and mind!! DOs can perform surgery, child delivery, treat patients, and prescribe medications in hospitals and clinic settings.

DPM-Doctor of Podiatry Cares for your feet!!!

Doctor of Chiropractics Will receive a doctorate degree and works to adjust and align the spine.

Anesthesiologist- puts you to sleep for surgery!!!

Cardiologist-cares for patients with heart problems like chest pain!!!

Oncologist- Cares for cancer patients!!!

Ophthalmologist- Eye Doctor This type of Dr. may have their own office, can work with others, and can even work at Wal-Mart in the vision center!!

Optometrist – prescribe corrective lenses (glasses and contacts) for patients (DOES NOT go to medical school) Optician – works in the background, fixes eye glasses

Otolaryngologist Ear, nose, and throat issues (kids with CHRONIC ear and tonsil issues)!!

Pathologist Works in the lab with specimens and blood, and can do autopsies!!

Medical Laboratory Technologist Works in the lab with Pathologist and studies tissues/fluids and can test blood. Not as much schooling as a Pathologist. Normally health care workers at the Technologist or Therapist level have to have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree.

Pediatrician Cares for children and childhood disorders like asthma, chicken pox, the common cold and simple ear infections!!!

Radiologist The doctor who looks at the x-ray and diagnoses problems from the x-ray. Involves simple x-rays to CT scans and MRI’s.

Physicians Assistant Works under the physician and can perform routine physical exams, order basic diagnostic tests and treat minor injuries under the SUPERVISION of the physician!! Usually a 2 -3 year program.

Medical Assistant Can work in a hospital but usually works in a doctors office doing paperwork and vital signs. Schooling usually lasts about 10 months.

Social Worker Assists people in abuse/neglect cases and financial issues. If families are in the hospital and need a place to live or stay, food, or any type of assistance when they are discharged, the social worker takes care of it!!

Veterinary Assistant You can work with animals, but don’t need to go to college.

Height and Weight Make sure you balance the scale. Nurse, Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant.

Apical Pulse Checking the patients heart rate using a stethoscope and counting for one full minute. Nurse, Doctor, Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant and EMT/Paramedics.

Assisting when someone is bleeding Can happen in the hospital, in the public. The first thing you should always do is WHAT!!? Put on gloves!!! Can be done by a Nurse, Doctor, EMT/Paramedic, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Medical Assistants.
