An Introduction to the College Planning Process What to Expect Junior Year!

Why talk about this now?? Relieve anxiety about the college search process. Encourage research and planning. Learn what you can do to get ready.

The Steps in College Planning for Junior Year! Researching Testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT) Visiting

College Admission Criteria Grades/Curriculum Class rank SAT/ACT scores Essay Counselor recommendation Teacher recommendation(s) Extracurricular involvement

What can YOU do NOW? READ Know yourself- your abilities, goals, interests. Get the best grades possible. Take the most challenging courses possible. Refine study skills. Record activities and honors for a future resume. Use a variety of resources for gathering information. Plan ahead. Take advantage of all opportunities. Ask questions. Keep in contact with your counselor!

How is Family Connection accessed? The easiest way to access Family Connection is through the Tolland High School web site, Quick Link to School Counseling, Family Connection link on left. www.ths.tolland.k12.ct.us Your username is your THS email. We have assigned passwords for your class – ths2019. If you have trouble logging-in, see your counselor

Using Family Connection CAREERS TAB Explore careers by title or cluster See related careers View videos, access information on needed skills, find out what typical pay is for a particular career

COLLEGE REP VISITS Juniors are strongly encouraged to meet with the college reps that come to THS. The schedule will be posted in the COLLEGES tab of Family Connection beginning in September.

What should you do JUNIOR year? Maintain a strong academic curriculum. Attend College Planning Workshop with your parents (evening program –November 15, 2017). Attend college fairs and visit college campuses. Meet with college reps at THS Refer to the THS College Planning Calendar.

Finish this Year Strong!!! During this last quarter of the year, continue to do your best! Remember that you need at least 13 credits to be a junior in the fall! See your counselor for help with your future planning!
