How can working as a network help you? Research shows that the if you have a large network and collaborate with a range of people, rather than a small and select group, you are more likely to benefit from: More chance for growth within your organisation Diverse opportunities Access to a broader range of resources and help when you need it Visibility and recognition The original research on the benefits of 'weak ties' (casual/open/diverse as opposed to tight/cohesive/closed networks) was identified by Mark Granovetter in this paper - https://sociology.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/publications/the_strength_of_weak_ties_and_exch_w-gans.pdf

What if you could accurately measure how effectively you collaborate? If you measure something then you are more likely to develop and maintain positive behaviors around it. That’s why tracking devices like Fitbit are so popular – they empower us to make data-driven choices to improve our health. Imagine if you didn’t have to guess how well you were collaborating on Yammer, but could accurately measure it instead? What behaviors would this enable you to change?

Introducing SWOOP! SWOOP is a Yammer analytics platform that analyses our behavior and interaction and provides deep and meaningful insights to help us collaborate more effectively. Notifications Groups Groups Networks

SWOOP not Snoop SWOOP is designed to help you make the most of your collaboration opportunities. Your data is protected from external eyes – we take your privacy seriously! What you see in your Personal tab is for your eyes only Your name will appear in other tabs or other’s SWOOP analytics if you are in the top 10; it shares the positive things you do! - SWOOP at the back end only stores and analyses meta-data (user ids, topic ids etc…) that is translated in browser session by you, the person who opens Yammer/SWOOP

How to access SWOOP analytics First, let’s get started by logging in to SWOOP! Open up a new tab in your browser and type in: company url ‘.swoopanalytics.com’ * In this example we are looking at the IT Pro Network, so the url is ‘itpronetwork.swoopanalytics.com’. Notifications Groups Groups URL Networks

How to access SWOOP analytics You will be asked to log in to your Yammer account and accept the necessary permissions. This allows SWOOP to access the necessary information to create your personal SWOOP environment. Click ‘Log In with Yammer’. Notifications Groups Groups Networks

Navigate around SWOOP Now you’re in SWOOP, how do you use it? The tabs at the top of the page let you navigate around. You can click between them to get analytics about your personal use of Yammer, how your business unit is doing, explore a topic, delve into a Yammer group, and get an all up view of the enterprise. Notifications Groups Groups Networks Click the tabs

Choose what you see The cog at the top right of each page is where you go to change the data being analysed, so what shows up in your SWOOP tabs. Click on the cog to change your settings, including: Date range Report types Notifications Click the cog Groups Groups Networks Default – 3 months Compare – only available to verified admins

Discover the detail Click the ‘i’ The SWOOP dashboard is made up of a number of boxes, each showing a different report or data point. Click on the ‘i’ in the top right corner of each box for lots of useful information about what that box means, including: An explanation and detail about it’s content – what is the box or report telling us? How is it measured? Useful hints and tips - how can this information can help you improve your collaborative behaviour? Notifications Groups Groups Networks

Key Statistics In each of the tabs you will find a box showing ‘key statistics’. In the Personal tab, your key statistics shows the total number of messages, replies, likes, mentions and notifications were sent by you and to you in the data range. Notifications Groups Groups Networks Key statistics

Visualise your network Notifications Still in your Personal tab, you will find your ‘Network Map’. This shows who you have interacted with in the specified time-frame using Yammer. Find your image (hint: look for the coloured circle!) and see who you are connected with. Grey lines mean you have a one-way connection with that person, and red lines mean your relationship is two-way. The coloured boxes around each image represent that person’s business unit. Are you surprised by any of the connections on your map? Who’s missing? Who else could you benefit from or help? Groups Groups Networks

Influencers, not Spammers Another great report within the ‘Enterprise’ tab is ‘Influential People’. Influential people are those who engage with the greatest number of people.
