Today’s goals By the end of this session, participants will: Understand existing FUHSD LCAP (goals, measures, and activities) Learn about the FUHSD Parent Survey Suggest other LCAP priorities & activities. Determine any action recommendations.

End Goal Make recommendations for priorities and activities for the 2016-17 LCAP: April/May – LCAP stakeholder input June – Board approval of LCAP Aug/Sep – Approved LCAP to SSCs Fall 2016 -17 – Schools write SPSAs (based on LCAP) Dec/Jan - 2017 – Board approves SPSAs

LCFF – Local Control Funding Formula Brief VIDEO - Overview of The Local Control Funding Formula allows school districts more authority in deciding how education dollars are spent, holds them accountable for getting results, and concentrates more money to school districts that serve high-needs students. The LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan): Blueprint for schools and districts (goals for students, and state and local priorities) Ensures schools and districts involve stakeholders 4 specific planning areas (see handout) 8 priorities (see handout) Relies on Parent and Family Involvement.

Existing FUHSD LCAP Goals 3 year LCAP Goals (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18) Sustain generally high student performance while ensuring high levels of learning for every student. All students will have access to a rigorous, viable curriculum designed to help them pursue their passions and interests while preparing them for college and careers. Every student will feel safe, cared about, and both academically and socially engaged in school. Parents, students, and other community stakeholders will have a variety of opportunities to learn about and give feedback on school and District priorities, expenditures, and programs.

LCAP Goal 1 Sustain generally high student performance while ensuring high levels of learning for every student. ALL students A-G requirements English Learners College/Career Low Income AP access/success Foster Youth English Proficiency Graduation/Dropout

Summary of existing LCAP Measures for Goal 1 Increase achievement levels of English Learner, Low Income, Hispanic, and Filipino students Increase portion of students that are college and career ready Increase the portion of students deemed “prepared for college” Increase the portion of English Learners (newcomers) who become English proficient

Summary of existing LCAP Measures for Goal 1 Increase the portion of Long Term English Learners) who become English proficient Increase English Learner reclassification rate Increase the portion of Hispanic and Afro- American students who receive a 3 or higher on AP exams. Reduce the dropout rate for Hispanic students Increase the graduation rate for Hispanic students

Summary of existing LCAP Measures for Goal 1 Monitor trends and patterns in other students achievement data including: Portion of under-represented students who take AP classes College readiness as indicated by SAT scores College readiness as indicated by need for remediation Post-secondary program success as indicated by college entrance and persistence data

Summary of existing LCAP Activities for Goal 1 Sustain a high quality program: Competitive salaries to attract/retain high quality staff. Additional resources to support staff/programs. Sustain a high quality program for all students, supplementing support for low-income and foster youth. Investigate feasibility of Title 1 funding Sustain a high quality program for all students, supplementing support for English learners. Release for EL teachers to plan with the ELD/ELA framework. Implement summer PD for all teachers of EL students.

LCAP Goal 2 All students will have access to a rigorous, viable curriculum designed to help them pursue their passions and interests while preparing them for college and careers.

Summary of existing LCAP Measures for Goal 2 Course-alike teams will implement curriculum and new state standards Interventions/assistance for students who need support More FUHSD courses with industry certification, workplace learning opportunities and/or credit from a post-secondary program Teachers = 100% appropriately credentialed Standards-aligned instructional materials/texts or digital curriculum resources for all students

Summary of existing LCAP Activities for Goal 2 Sustain and expand curriculum and PD supports: New teacher induction program. Curriculum and PD teams meet regularly PD and team coaching support from District curriculum lead teachers and program admin Professional learning opportunities. Annual leadership learning for admin

Summary of existing LCAP Activities for Goal 2 Monitor course access in relation to course requests and need for intervention/support. Continue Math Advisory Council work Conduct review of instructional materials, including digital resources in Math and English. Build relationships with local community colleges and businesses to expand workplace learning and college credit. Maintain high quality teacher recruiting strategies

LCAP Goal 3 Every student will feel safe, cared about, and both academically and socially engaged in school.

Summary of existing LCAP Measures for Goal 3 Increase portion of students who respond positively to level of engagement surveys. Increase portion of students who respond positively to sense of well-being survey questions Maintain low expulsion rate (check subgroups) Decrease suspension rate (check subgroups)

Summary of existing LCAP Measures for Goal 3 Decrease chronically truant students (+support) Maintain record of safe facilities Decrease dropout rate for Hispanic students Increase graduation rate for Hispanic students

Summary of existing LCAP Activities for Goal 3 School climate group to norm discipline across schools and advise on interventions. Professional development for bullying intervention. Rapid Responder School Emergency Plan to improve response to emergencies. Interventions – drug abuse counseling, anger management, and “Strengthening Families,” as alternatives to suspension and expulsion.

Summary of existing LCAP Activities for Goal 3 Saturday School to reduce suspensions. Sunnyvale Challenge Success Program to connect school staff with community-based resources Seek resources (Title 1) - Parent Community Liaison to support Hispanic and Low Income families. Expulsion process refresher training for Admin teams

LCAP Goal 4 Parents, students, and other community stakeholders will have a variety of opportunities to learn about and give feedback on school and District priorities, expenditures, and programs.

Summary of existing LCAP Measures for Goal 4 Parent survey of satisfaction (school/district programs & priorities & ability to provide feedback. Maintain a presence in local and social media and on FUHSD and school site websites. Advisory groups with parent and staff representation. LCAP review/feedback on all agendas (SSC, ELAC, DELAC, Los Padres, FUHSD Intra-district Council. Maintain or increase community presentations. Annual Report to the Community.

Summary of existing LCAP Activities for Goal 4 Parent survey of satisfaction of information about school/district programs and priorities and parent ability to provide feedback. Increase media access to stories about FUHSD: Frequent articles published in local media. Update FUHSD Facebook page Update FUHSD website Keep FUHSD high school websites current, engaging, and informative.

FUHSD Parent Survey – District and Site specific data Parent survey administered in Feb 2016. Purpose – measure degree of parent satisfaction regarding information about school/district programs and priorities and parent ability to provide feedback Hanover Research collected the data and analyzed the results. 2,146 responses (approx 20% of FUHSD)
