False Assumptions Objective: Students will collaborate using problem solving and critical thinking skills to arrive at a correct description to a vague story through trial and error.

Stories Directions: In groups of 2-4, read the story given to you. On the back of the story, draw what you think happened and explain it. When done, check with the teacher to see if you got the correct answer.

Answers Directions: 1. If your answer was incorrect, try again. 2. When you finally arrive at the correct answer, complete the following questions. a) What did you assume incorrectly? b) What information do you think was left out that led to that false assumption? c)How did you think differently to change your assumption? d) If you were correct the first time, what have you learned in the past to help you make correct assumptions?

Check For Understanding Questions 1. What did you learn from this activity? 2. What skill will you take from this activity to use in science to help you be more successful?
