EXPOSITORY WRITING

PURPOSE Inform Explain Describe

THESIS STATEMENTS NEEDED Make sure the thesis (topic sentence) is about the subject. Ex: “One of my favorite things is kayaking and I will tell you how to master it.” Not focused on kayaking “Kayaking can open the door to new adventures and even a novice can master it.” FOCUSED

Different types of sentences Simple: called an independent clause, contains a subject and a verb, and it expresses a complete thought. Some students like to study in the mornings.

Example Providing a name brand, or scenario that happened to someone else. Ex. My best friend did not know how to hit a baseball when he joined our team, but at the end of the season, he became one of the best batters.
