Allegory An allegory is a narrative that can be read on more than one level. In an allegory, the objects, people, and actions are representative of meanings outside of the narrative. An allegory is essentially a group of symbols working together to create meaning. A fable is a short story, often one with animals as characters, that illustrates a moral.
