What are Petroglyphs Pictures created by removing or carving into stone Comes from the Greek word; petro = rock and glyph = writing

Where is Gobustan? Gobustan is located about about 40 outside of Baku Country = Azerbaijan

Gobustan UNESCO protected petrogylphs Dating from between 40,000 and 5,000 years ago Over 6,000 carving

State of Preservation Gobustan is very well preserved because the images are carved on the insides of cliffs and in crevices, protecting the from weather

Significance Gobustan is considered one of the world’s great collection of petroglyphs because of the length of time people carved here We are able to see the development of society and change in cultural behaviors carved in stone Most importantly IN ONE PLACE
