Economic Policy Committee Minute How to Read Your Paystub Intro.

This is your Collective Agreement, get to know it – it is your friend! The Agreement can also be found online at the ATA Local 38 website: local38.teachers.ab.ca There is a link on the left hand side of the page. Hold up the booklet and refer to it. The entire agreement can be found on our Local website that you can see on the screen. In addition there are links to the current salary and allowance rates

Current Pay Grid Chart With The 4.82% Increase For Those On Grid This is our current salary grid. Teachers should be able to find their grid cell and check that amount against the paystub. The following information is in relation to Article 3 in the Agreement. The above chart is available on the local38.teachers.ab.ca website.

A Pay Advice You should all have one of these every month and you should look at it regularly.

Where You Fit Into The Pay Grid Chart Your annual salary, before deductions, which should match the pay grid chart – if you are a full-time, salary teacher. The letter here indicates the number of years of education, in this case 4 years. The step you are indicates the number of years of completed service, in this case 2. Your step is the number of years of completed service. Note that the “Annual” amount in the top centre includes any allowances that you may be earning in addition to your salary grid rate. The allowance is added to the salary grid to arrive at the annual salary. D equals 4 years of university as determined by Teacher Qualifications Services. Additionally, E = 5 and F = 6. Be certain to check this.

Tax Deductions CIT: Canada Income Tax CPP: Canada Pension Plan EI: Employment Insurance If you have any questions about the information in this box, check out the Service Canada website, servicecanada.gc.ca Please refer to the Executive Assistant’s report in the consent agenda for further information on CPP and EI. Total government deductions this month: 1,132.24

Hours and Earnings Listed here are any deductions for personal days, sick days (which are also shown as reimbursed) and any other reductions/additions. It is important to remember YTD (Year To Date) refers to the time from January 1 to December 31. The “Rate” is important to payroll administration and can be ignored. You can see that the sick leave is an in/out accounting record of what they paid you while on sick leave. Also note that there are two lines with no Earnings this pay period. Once you have been paid something for one month, it will continue to show up on each pay advice for the remainder of the calendar year as a YTD record.

Before-Tax Deductions For full-time teachers, these numbers should remain the same during any one school year. They are adjusted annually to reflect ATA budget changes and pension plan requirements. For part-time teachers, these rates are pro-rated.

Benefits Please note that the line for the Health Spending Account is what was deposited on account for you this year. It is not your balance which must be obtained from Sun Life. The numbers listed here are the premiums the CBE pays for our benefits coverage. We DO NOT contribute to these funds, the CBE does so solely!

59,217 12 = 4,934.75 4,934.75 – 1,132.24 = 3,802.51 3,802.51 – 532.64 = 3,269.87 In summary, the bottom of your pay advice provides your gross pay on the left, from which is subtracted the two categories of deductions to arrive at your net pay which is the amount deposited to your bank account. If you have any concerns regarding your pay contact the Employee Contact Centre at 1-877-353-2555.

Pay Issues If you have any concerns regarding the accuracy of your pay please contact the Employee Contact Centre at 1-877-353-2555. If concerns persist please contact the Executive Assistant to Local 38 at 403-262-6616.
