More complex considerations of receptor signaling. A More complex considerations of receptor signaling. A. Several types of receptors have been shown to form dimers, with the receptor dimer responding to different ligands (agonists, antagonists, or inverse agonists) compared with the receptor monomers. B. Other receptors exhibit ligand-directed signaling. In the example shown, one class of agonist at the serotonin 5HT2A receptor activates Gq with downstream signaling via phospholipase C, whereas another class of agonist triggers the receptor to activate Gi/o (and possibly other G proteins) with downstream signaling via arachidonic acid metabolites.
